RETURN is a poetic and deeply personal documentary about identity, belonging, and the longing to find one’s place in the world.

The film follows artist Mike Årsjö, adopted from Chile as an infant and raised among the Sawiyano people in the rainforest of Papua New Guinea. Given the name “Sawiyano Ta” — “one of us” — he grew up between cultures that would come to shape his identity.

Now living in Sweden, Mike returns to the village he left nearly two decades earlier. His journey becomes an emotional homecoming and a confrontation with memory, change, and the fragile ties that connect us to our past.

Through intimate encounters and evocative imagery, RETURN explores love, family, cultural transformation, and humanity’s relationship with nature — a universal story about roots, reconciliation, and the need to belong.
